differently The Sydney Puppet Theatre specialises in Theatre of Delight for the family audience. Currently, they have 6 shows in repertoire using a variety of puppetry styles including shadow puppets, hand and rod puppets and exquisite marionettes. They have toured extensively in Australia and have performed by invitation at international puppet festivals and events in Hungary, Mexico, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Austria and Germany. The Sydney Puppet Theatre (since 1989, principally Steve Coupe and Sue Wallace) was formed in 1984 with fellow puppeteers Greg Howard and David Collins. From 1992 to 2004 the company managed the artistic direction of The Rocks Puppet Cottage. From 1998 to 2005, they directed the "One Van" International Festival of Puppetry in the beautiful village of Blackheath, the Blue Mountains, NSW. They have been puppetry consultants for various clients including the Australian Broadcasting Commission, the Roads and Transport Authority, Sydney Water, the NSW Fire Department, Australia’s Wonderland and the Powerhouse and Australian Museums. Sue Wallace was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2005 and Sue and Steve spent 3 months in 2006 researching Puppet Centres around the world with a view to creating a working model for a puppet centre in Australia.
In 2009, they will be touring 2 shows into primary schools. "Munch, Crunch, Move" is a fabulous show that continues to excite kids about the benefits of good food and excerise. "The Emperor's New Beat Box" beautifully combines world music, story and puppetry. It is a good stimulous for storymaking and multi-modal literacy.
